Types of Errors and their Penalty

Full Errors (1 Error Each)

• Omission: Missing character/word.
• Substitution: Wrong character.
• Addition: Extra character.
• Repetition: Extra repeat.

Half Errors (0.5 Error Each)

Minor formatting errors:

• Space Error: Missing/extra space.
• Capitalization Error: Wrong case.
• Punctuation Error: Wrong/missing punctuation.

How Errors and Speed are Calculated

• Total Keystrokes: All keys typed (letters, spaces, punctuation).
• Total Words: Total Keystrokes ÷ 5. E.g., 1500 ÷ 5=300 words.
• Total Errors=Full Errors + (Half Errors ÷ 2).
• 5% Relaxation: Total Words × 0.05 ignored.
• Final Errors=Total Errors - Relaxation.
• Penalty Words=Final Errors × 10.
