Types of Errors and their Penalty

Full Errors (1 Error Each)

Major keyboarding errors that alter the copy significantly:
  • Omission: Missing character/word.
  • Substitution: Wrong character.
  • Addition: Extra character.
  • Repetition: Extra repeat.

Half Errors (0.5 Error Each)

Minor formatting errors:

  • Space Error: Missing/extra space.

How Errors and Speed are Calculated

  • Total Keystrokes: All keys typed (letters, spaces, punctuation).

  • 5% Relaxation: Total Words × 0.05 ignored.
  • Final Errors=Total Errors - Relaxation.

  • Net WPM=(Total Words - Penalty Words) ÷ 10.

Qualification: English 30 WPM, Hindi 25 WPM after penalties.
